The guava is a smallish, evergreen tree native to the tropical regions of South America and now, found in all tropical areas of the world, says Britannica. The botanical name is Psidium guajava. It is known for its fruit, which has an exceptionally tangy and sweet taste.
But did you know the leaves of the guava are used as a tranquilizer or sedative? Simply put, they will put you to sleep and solve your insomnia. I love to chew it, and the taste is pleasant and not as bitter as the leaves of neem or pawpaw.
How it works
Daily activities and the pressures of life create stress and it’s related anxiety. Added to this is oxidative stress borne out of our lifestyle such as the consumption of sugar, and processed foods, plastics, cigarettes, and other activities like smoking. Our cells suffer damage and we feel stressed and anxious. Under such conditions, many people find it difficult to fall asleep.
Guava leaves are rich in antioxidants, a study recorded in the National Library of Medicine’s journal, PubMed, reveals. Antioxidants fight off oxidative stress, relaxing the nerves and releasing a calming effect on the nervous system, thereby inducing sleep.
